Discrepancies in reach estimates

You may experience discrepancies between the estimates produced in FIAM 1.0 and 2.0. When understanding these discrepancies, keep in mind that both systems are producing statistical estimates which come with some statistical uncertainty.

The statistical uncertainty in FIAM 1.0 estimates for smaller sites was often high due to small sample sizes (n). This is significantly improved for overall reach estimates in FIAM 2.0 where the results are more robust because of the new, cookieless methodology.

I’m comparing the FIAM 2.0 numbers with numbers from Kits - why do they not match?

If you are comparing FIAM 2.0 numbers with a report you’ve created in Kits, please be aware that the following may explain some of the discrepancies you are seeing:

  • The combination of trackpoints or media in your Kits may not match the combination of media (taxonomy document) used to produce the media site level numbers in the shared reports
  • If no target group has been selected for your Kit the Kit will include foreign traffic / non-Finnish pageviews
  • The outlier removals that was in place to remove abnormal/ bot-like pageviews and frequency in FIAM 1.0 are not in FIAM 2.0

I’m comparing the FIAM 2.0 numbers with numbers from the Toplist - why do they not match?

If you are comparing FIAM 2.0 numbers with a previous Toplist report, please be aware that the following may explain some of the discrepancies you are seeing:

  • The combination of trackpoints or media that was validated and reported when the Toplist was produced may not match the combination of media (taxonomy document) used to produce the media site level numbers in the shared reports
  • The outlier removals that was in place to remove abnormal/ bot-like pageviews and frequency in FIAM 1.0 are not in FIAM 2.0

What do you mean by ‘impression’?

‘Impression’ is simply our internal technical event name for what we in FIAM report as ‘pageviews’. Depending on your implementation, this will likely represent the page views on your websites, screen views of your native apps and media starts in your big screen measurement. So impression = pageview in a FIAM context.
